Murphy's 9, previously an 18 hole golf course named Forest Meadows Golf Course, is now a Public 9 hole golf course located in Murphys, California, approximately 14 miles east of the historic "Gold Rush" town of Angels Camp.
The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. The course first opened for play in 1980.
Some of the fairways wind within the pines and giant cedars while others play across the high meadowlands with views of the Stanislaus River Canyon. Elevation changes make club selection a challenge.
What was once an 18 hole par-60 executive course is now a 9-Hole par 33 golf course.
Sierra Golf Management, which owns the course, had announced at the start of 2018 that it was permanently closing the nine-hole course, but volunteers within the community raised $70,000 to convince the ownership to try to make things work for another year. “We’ll continue to work in the red, but we’re getting people we have not seen since we bought the course and it is a significant effort,” said Sierra Golf President Dave Christensen. “Whether it’s too little too late, we don’t know. We’re willing to give it another shot.”

Changed to 9 hole course in March 2015. Play 9 twice for 18 holes. Price was for 9 holes. Destroyed Robert Trent Jones course layout. HORRIBLE cart paths, poorly maintained bunkers, fair carts, beautiful area but poorly maintained. Was set for closure but status uncertain as of this writing. Sad as was one of nicest executive courses in the Mother Lode. Current management very indifferent to player needs.

On Thanksgiving eve I figured the course would be packed. It was but pace of play was fine. Lots of risk and reward shots with true rolling greens. A fun short course that offers pleanty of challange.

Course has reopened after 2-3 years. Used to be 18 , now 9. Pretty stretch of land and worth the drive.
